It was only a week or so ago when I reminded the kids at breakfast that we had dentist appointments after school. Since it was Friday, I expected people to be a bit disappointed since it would mean that they would have to postpone playing with friends. Instead the older kids said, "OK" without any fuss at all and my first grader was jumping up and down.
"I LOVE the dentist!" she said nearly shaking with excitement. "Do you know why?"
"Why?" I asked.
"Well," she began, ready to rattle off a list, "I love the prizes, but I especially love the MOVIES!!!!!" And she was jumping again. "I usually watch Bolt because I love Bolt and he's such a cute widdle puppy in the beginning." She ended in a baby voice hugging her arms to her chest as if she was really squeezing a baby Bolt.
I grabbed my husband and relayed the story. I glanced over my shoulder at the conclusion and said, "We must me doing something right if they love going to the dentist that much."
Perhaps I give myself a bit too much credit. The reality is that
Dr. Blake Matthews does an incredible job of making going to the dentist really fun for my kids. With gameboys and Duplos ready in the waiting room, the books they bring to occupy themselves are quickly discarded. But Dr. Matthews and his staff are always ready for us. After checking in and visiting a minute with the
concierge in the waiting room, we're very quickly back in exam chairs with our cleanings under way.
Large flat screen TVs are mounted on the ceiling and you can choose to watch a movie (like my kids) or just listen to music as you watch photographs of gorgeous scenery (my favorite). Going to the dentist is, really, a lot of fun.
